FAQs

Common questions about apostilles, document preparation, timelines, and international document use.

What is an apostille?

+
An apostille is a certificate that authenticates the origin of a public document for use in another country that participates in the Hague Apostille Convention. It may be needed for birth certificates, marriage certificates, powers of attorney, school records, business documents, and other documents being used internationally.

Who issues apostilles for Florida documents?

+
For Florida documents, apostilles are issued by the Florida Department of State. Five Star Notary Service LLC does not issue apostilles directly. We coordinate document review, submission, tracking, and return delivery as part of our apostille concierge service.

Which documents can be apostilled?

+
Common documents include:
  • Birth, death, and marriage certificates
  • Divorce decrees and name change documents
  • Powers of attorney and affidavits
  • Business and corporate documents
  • Diplomas, transcripts, and school records
  • Notarized statements, agreements, and consent forms

Do I need to notarize my document before apostille processing?

+
It depends on the document. Certified government records, such as birth or marriage certificates, generally do not need separate notarization. Private documents, affidavits, powers of attorney, consent forms, and many business documents usually need to be properly notarized before apostille processing. We can review the document type and help you understand the next step before submission.

How long does apostille processing take?

+
Turnaround depends on the service level selected: Standard Concierge, Priority Concierge, or Express Concierge. Processing begins the next business day after documents are received, reviewed, and payment is confirmed. Timeframes exclude pickup day, shipping time, weekends, federal holidays, and government or state closures. Timelines are estimates and may change due to state processing conditions beyond our control.

Can you help if I am not local to Palm Beach County?

+
Yes. Clients outside Palm Beach County may ship documents to us for apostille coordination. Once processing is completed, documents can be returned within the United States or shipped internationally for an additional fee based on destination and carrier rates.

How will my completed documents be returned?

+
Complimentary United States return shipping is included via FedEx 2 Day. International shipping is available for an additional fee and pricing varies by destination.

Can I track my documents?

+
Yes. Tracking information is provided when documents are shipped. Status updates are also provided during the process so you know where your documents are in the apostille coordination timeline.

Can you notarize my document before apostille processing?

+
In many cases, yes. If your document requires notarization before apostille processing, we may be able to coordinate mobile notary or remote online notarization before the apostille request is submitted. Eligibility depends on the document type, receiving party requirements, and destination country requirements.

Do you accept international orders?

+
Yes. We assist with eligible Florida origin documents and can coordinate international return shipping after processing. International shipping is billed separately based on destination.
Reminder: Apostilles and legalizations are issued by government authorities. Our role is to coordinate, track, and manage your submission professionally from document review through return delivery.
